This year's Special Children's Fund Drive will be held the weekend of April 11-13 which is Palm Sunday weekend. As in the past, our fund drive will be raising money for two local organizations that run and support activities for special needs children. They are Camp Acorn and the Mary Therese Rose Fund. In addition, 10% of our proceeds benefit the New Jersey Special Olympics.
Last year we raised a record $6,600 which is second only to the Horseshoe Tournament. Unlike the Horseshoe Tournament however, there are virtually no upfront costs since our only collection tools are posters that I put together, 5-gallon spackle buckets and those brightly colored yellow and red vests which we re-use year-after-year. Like all of our other fund raising events, the key to our past and continued success has been those of you who have generously given your time to man the collection stations posted around Oakland and Franklin Lake as well as the post-mass collections at OLPH and MBS. For all who have helped us in the past, I want to thank you for your time and efforts in making this one of our council's longest and most successful charity fundraisers and I hope you will, once again, help us this year to continue our mission of helping "God's Special Children".

Currently, I have over 65 timeslots to fill and our goal is to fill them all by Friday, April 4 so time is of the essence. Therefore, in the spirit of this Easter season, please consider volunteering to take just one of the over 50 open 2-hour timeslots at one of our collection stations on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, April 11-13. Collection timeslots and locations will follow in a separate e-mail and will also be posted in periodic e-mail updates this upcoming week as well as the kofc5846.org website.
